Mogollon, New Mexico:
Mogollon is an historic former gold, silver, and quartz mining town nestled high in the mountains of New Mexico.  It remains little changed since it went bust during the 1930s.  While the town suffered more than its fair share of firesa, floods, Indian raids, and Old West lawlessness it refused to die and today is gaining new life as a tourist destination complete with new residents, authentic accomodations, and thriving stores and businesses.  It is very picturesque.

Mineola, Kansas:
Mineola was conceived on paper as the capital of Kansas in 1898 and blueprints were drawn up.  However, shortly after construction began, the state changed its mind and all ongoing construction was disbanded.  Its few completed buildings were relocated to other cities in Kansas and nothing remains.

Monson, New Hampshire:
Monson was the first inland pioneer town in New Hampshire and was settled in 1737.  It was abandoned in 1770 after the town charter was revoked.  The town's refusal to build a meeting house led to the revocation. Monson was also plagued by many Indian attacks during the French and Indian War.  Monson's ruins were recently rediscovered by a land developer but locals raised enough money to buy it back to preserve the settlement.  Very little remains of the ruins except for stone foundations and holes in the ground.

Marion Station, Maryland:
Named for the daughter of its creator during the 1860s, Marion Station is Maryland's best known ghost town. The area, near Colbourne Creek, was the world's leading strawberry producer and the railroad enabled the town to host the world's largest strawberry auction.  At its peek, daily production surpassed today's total yearly United States production.   Strawberry consumption declined in the 1950s and, today, the small town retains only a handful of businesses.  The fully restored train station is now an Indian museum.

Mansfield, Michigan:
Mansfield was established in 1889 after iron ore was discovered.  In 1893 it fell victim to Michigan's worst mining disaster which killed 27 miners and heavily flooded the mine.  The town's total population was only around 400 and it never recovered.

Lulu, Florida:
Lulu is a decaying and slowly dying little town which was once a cotton producing community until insect infestations killed the cotton crop.  Although the town never recovered, many of its faithful residents have remained there for decades and it is littered with abandoned buildings in various states of disrepair.  Lulu is unique because it also has a slave cemetery.

Love Canal, New York:
Love Canal is a section of Niagara Falls which was abandoned during the 1970s.  It was built on top of a chemical waste dump.  Prior to it's abandonment, a large number of its residents experienced severe health problems, which were directly related to the toxins, and many died.  A lot of former residents continue to suffer.  Today, portions of Love Canal have been re-inhabited against better judgement.

Leadville, Colorado:
Leadville gained fame from Lead and Silver mining because the gold mining boom of 1859 proved unprofitable there.  At one time Leadville was the second largest city in Colorado.  Leadville went bust in 1893 when the mines were sold to pay creditors.

Lead, South Dakota:
Lead began booming during the Black Hills gold rush of 1876 when one of the world's largest gold deposits was discovered.  Although mining operations slowed quite a bit after the boom ended, mining operations continue today and Lead has made a comeback as a tourist and resort town.  Lead is also famous for its many Victorian mansions.

Laupahoehoe, Hawaii:
Laupahoehoe was located on the Big Island and was Hilo's major shipping port.  It was washed away by a tsunami in 1946.  Only a few foundations and a memorial remain.
